Reiki teaching includes an attunement to the Reiki energy. The attunement is what makes Reiki unique from other healing systems. The attunement is passed on from the teacher to the student and opens up the student to accept and be able to channel the higher frequency energy This higher frequency energy helps to heal at all levels;
During a treatment session the Reiki energy is channelled through the practitioner to the client. The client remains fully clothed and is generally laying on a massage bed. This spiritually guided life force energy helps to release blockages in the main energy centres in the body and to rebalance the body’s energy systems to a harmonious state. This boost to the clients own energy helps them to:
- Reduce stress
- Reduce pain
- Promote healing at all levels
- Improve their overall well being
What kind of sensations or feelings will I experience during or after the Reiki treatment or attunement?
Note – It is not necessary to feel anything or have any sensations. Reiki will work and it will cause not harm.
Reiki experiences are as individual as the person receiving the Reiki treatment or attunement. So much so that individuals often experience different things during their treatments and/ or attunements.
Some people feel heat or cold, pulsing sensations, sense of relaxation or calm. Many people fall asleep during a treatment. Some see lights, shapes and or colours. On rare occasions some people have had out of body experiences, astral travel or visits from those who have crossed over to the other side.
If you don’t sense anything, that is ok. Don’t get hung up on the fact you don’t get the same experiences as others. The Reiki energy is working and working for your highest good.
Reiki is spiritually guided life force energy and can never do any harm. . As a Reiki practitioner you are channelling this energy through you to the other person. You are not directing the energy or the healing. Reiki knows where to go and what to work on. It considers both the client and the practitioner so when you give a treatment to someone else you are also receiving a Reiki treatment.
REIKI is passed down from Teacher to student. The training includes an attunement to the REIKI degree. This attunement to the REIKI energy allows the student to channel this higher frequency REIKI energy. Although there are many books available on REIKI it is the attunement that activates the ability to channel the energy.
Reiki knowledge and attunements are passed on from teacher to student during the training session. Although the books provide a lot of valuable information about Reiki it is the attunement that completes the Reiki training and makes Reiki unique from other healing systems. The attunement opens the student’s energy systems enabling them to channel the energy. It also connects the student to the source of the Reiki energy.
Once you are attuned to the Reiki energy you have the ability to channel the Reiki energy for life. Put out your intention to use the Reiki energy and let the energy flow.
Although it is not necessary to have an attunement again it can be very helpful in reconnecting you to the Reiki energy and to deepen your relationship to it.

Once you have received your First Degree Reiki you are attuned to the Reiki energy and you can start giving Reiki treatments to yourself, others, animals, pets. The higher degrees provide more tools and techniques for use when giving Reiki and also provide further opportunities to deepen and strengthen your connection to the Reiki energy.
No. When you give Reiki to someone you are channelling this energy through you to the other person. You are not using your own energy and giving that to the person. Reiki knows where to go and what to work on. It considers both the client and the practitioner so when you give a treatment to someone else you are also receiving a Reiki treatment.
You can give Reiki to any living being.
Pets will let you know if they want the Reiki energy and will tell you when they have had enough. Your pet may allow you to give Reiki and generally sit quietly while receiving it. You will intuitively know when they have had enough – they usually walk away or become restless. Don’t be surprised if they allow you to give Reiki at one time and walk away at another time.
Plants are living beings and as such also benefit from the Reiki energy
Reiki symbols are tools to help direct the energy.
Examples of some of the uses of the symbols are to:
- Send healing energy at a distance
- To help heal emotional issues.
- To hep heal mental issues
- To help clear unwanted habits.
- Cleansing the energy of a room.
The Reiki symbols give the practitioner more tools in their toolkit to help them with their healing work.
